A Victorian Silver-Gilt Tea & Coffee Set (SOLD)
London, 1855-57, by Robert Hennell
Length: 7 7/8", Weight: 46 oz. 11 dwt.

While our business—and the boss’s mindset—can be described as Victorian, our stock almost never is. The charm of this tea set, however, is a wonderful relief from the heaviness, the coarseness--the ˝hideous solidity,˝ as Dickens put it—of much Victorian silver. It is delicately gilded, and each piece is a different fruit or vegetable—an eggplant, a pomegranate, a pumpkin, and a gourd.
