A Magnificent George III Silver Gilt Salver (SOLD)
London, 1787 by Hannam and Crouch
Diameter: 19 3/4", Weight: 104 ozs.
The arms are those of Clarendon quartering Hyde with the Royal arms of Prussia in pretense, for Thomas, 2nd Earl of Clarendon of the second creation (1753-1824), M.P. for Christchurch between 1774 and 1780 and subsequently MP for Helston until 1786. His father had been created a Baron of the Kingdom of Prussia, having been ambassador to the Royal Prussian court in 1782. King George III granted a special dispensation for the foreign title to be borne by the family.
