Antique English Silver / 06_04 (scroll down to see image)

A Large Pair of Queen Anne Candlesticks (SOLD)
London, 1704, by William Lukin
Height: 7 1/4", Weight: 27 oz.

Provenance: Norman Woolworth to his daughter Pamela Combemale

William Lukin produced a small but very high quality body of silver. Arthur Grimwade says of him: “Although comparatively few pieces appear to have survived bearing his mark compared with Pyne or Nelme, for instance, it is apparent that Lukin was obtaining orders for expensive pieces in the Huguenot manner… His proximity in the Strand to the banking establishments of Child and Hoare may well have contributed to his clientele either directly or through orders from the banks” (London Goldsmiths 1697-1837, pp. 586-7).
