The arms are possibly those of Bernard, as borne by the Comtes de Coubert, Ile de France. The arms are those of Delafaye impaling Colbourne for Charles Delafaye (d. 1745), who was Under Secretary of State and also Lord Galway's Principal Secretary, the latter being Lord Lieutenant of the Privy Seal of Ireland. The Chief Secretary was the most important position for determining British policy in Ireland after the Lord Lieutenant. Delafaye held this position of Chief Secretary with Martin Bladen from 1715-1717. |
