An Extremely Rare George III Two-Color Gold Kilkenny Freedom Box (SOLD)
London 1811 by John Northam
Length: 2 3/4"; Weight: 3 ozs. 5 dwts.
Made in London, no doubt as a special order, this piece is cast with the arms of Kilkenny and engraved with a presentation inscription from that city to Brigadier General Dennis Pack in 1811. Pack, perhaps best known for commanding the 9th Infantry at Waterloo, clearly enjoyed gifts; the Kilkenny Moderator reported that he presented the 42nd Royal Highlanders with a pair of Irish bagpipes for their exertions while under his command during that battle.
